Pau bounced back in style from their European Rugby Challenge Cup Round 1 loss at Leicester last week with a nine-try home victory over Rugby Calvisano on Friday in Pool 5.
The TOP 14 team, third in their domestic competition, had won nine of their previous 10 games against Italian opponents and victory No.10 never looked in doubt as they wrapped up a try bonus point by the 38th minute on their way to a 35-3 half-time lead.
With scrum-half Clovis Lebail landing eight conversions from his nine attempts, Pau cruised to their eighth consecutive home victory in the competition.
They broke the deadlock after only a minute when wing Bastien Pourailly crossed and were 14-0 up by the 14th minute after centre Alexandre Dumoulin touched down.
Calvisano, who have never won an away game in the Challenge Cup, reduced the deficit with a 32nd minute penalty from fly-half Alberto Chiesa, but that only served to stir Pau back into action.
In the last six minutes of the half they scored three converted tries via lock Daniel Ramsay following a Pourailly break in the 35th minute, Le Bail three minutes later after another scintillating run from Pourailly and full-back Charly Malie in added time.
The try feast continued in the second half when Pau scored four more tries through prop Siegfried Fisiihoi (45), left wing Vincent Pinto (57), flanker Baptiste Pesenti (61) and replacement Quentin Lespiaucq Brettes (66).
Calvisano grabbed a consolation try 10 minutes from time via flanker Alessandro Izekor that was converted by Paolo Pescetto.
