Gloucester Rugby are looking to defend a fine home record when they welcome USAP to Kingsholm Stadium in the EPCR Challenge Cup on Saturday evening.
The Gallagher Premiership side have only lost four of their 34 home games in the pool stage of the Challenge Cup, winning the other 30 – one of those victories came in Round 2 of this season’s competition as they ran in eight tries against Benetton Rugby.
USAP will take heart from the fact that all four of Gloucester’s defeats came against TOP 14 sides – the most recent being against Section Paloise in 2017/18 (24-34).
The Pool B match kicks off at 17:30 (UK & Irish time) and is available to watch on beIN Sports.
Other key facts:
- Gloucester Rugby and USAP have never faced each other in the Challenge Cup but were in the same pool twice in the Heineken Champions Cup, during the 2002/03 season when each team won their home game and most recently in 2013/14 when Gloucester won both home and away.
- USAP have lost seven of their last nine games in the Challenge Cup (W1 D1), as many defeats as in their previous 23 games in the competition (W16); they have lost their last two away games but have lost three in a row only once before – their first three away games in the competition, back in 1997/98.
- USAP have conceded 897 carry metres per game in this season’s Challenge Cup, more than any other side, while they’ve also missed the most tackles on average (32.5).
- USAP winger Edward Sawailau boasted the highest average carry distance in Round 3 of the EPCR Challenge Cup (17.8 metres), making 89 metres from his five carries.
