The United Rugby Championship side have been drawn against reigning Heineken Champions Cup and TOP14 champions Stade Toulousain and Gallagher Premiership champions Harlequins in Pool B of next season’s competition.

But Young stressed that the Welsh region are not fazed by the sizeable task they face to overcome two of the best teams in Europe, insisting that they are games that every club want to play in.

“Every team want to be in this competition and that’s because every team want to judge themselves against the best sides across Europe,” he told Cardiff’s website.

“We’re drawn in a group alongside the English champions and a Toulouse side who claimed the double last year.

“So, we’re up against the best in England and the best in France, and we couldn’t judge ourselves against two better teams.”

Young accepted that it will be a tall order for his side to progress to the Round of 16, but believes that players, coaches and fans alike will be itching for the competition to get underway.

“We know it’s a massive challenge, but it’s a challenge we’ll relish and we’re certainly excited for it,” he stated. “These games can’t come around quick enough.

“On top of that, both sides play a fantastic, entertaining brand of rugby, which we also pride ourselves on, so hopefully these games should be a real treat for the Cardiff Arms Park faithful. I’m sure we’ll see some brilliant games.”

Cardiff Rugby director of rugby Dai Young claims that “every team” want to be involved in the Heineken Champions Cup because of the calibre of opposition.
