French international wing Penaud ran in two tries and beat six defenders as ASM Clermont Auvergne were edged out 29-23 at home to Ulster Rugby in Round 1 and will be hungry for more when Sale Sharks visit on Sunday. Having also crossed three times in four matches last season, the 25-year-old looks Clermont’s most likely try scorer as they seek to kick-start their campaign.

Tommy Reffell – Leicester Tigers

The 22-year-old flanker has racked up 28 tackles in his two appearances so far as Leicester Tigers translated their impressive domestic form onto the European scene. Reffell had yet to start a Heineken Champions Cup match prior to this season, but has proved more than at home in Europe’s top competition. Expect him to continue his impressive work rate at Connacht Rugby on Saturday.

Jack Carty – Connacht Rugby

Irish international fly half Carty has shown his all-round scoring prowess in Connacht Rugby’s two fixtures so far. The 29-year-old assisted three of their six tries during their 36-9 Round 1 victory over Stade Français Paris and added three conversions. Carty followed this up with a try, two conversions, two penalties and a drop goal in Connacht’s 29-23 defeat at Leicester Tigers.

Wenceslas Lauret – Racing 92

The experienced flanker enjoyed a field day at Northampton Saints in Round 1, scoring a hat-trick of tries in Racing 92’s comprehensive 45-14 victory. Saturday’s visit to Ospreys offers the 32-year-old Frenchman a decent chance to build on that tally as the Pool A leaders seek a third bonus-point victory of the campaign.
