South African wing Skosan, who scored two tries in three games in his maiden campaign in EPCR’s leading competition in 2021-22, crossed for Saints’ fifth score in the dying seconds as they battled back from 16 points down.

The visitors trailed 18-6 after 25 minutes before Dan Biggar, who contributed their points from tee, brilliantly set up Alex Coles for a try before adding a third penalty shortly after the break.

But further Wasps scores saw them go 30-14 up, with Ollie Sleightholme’s effort offering Northampton some hope with just under an hour played.

The turning point came with 14 minutes to go as Skosan was taken out in the air, leading to a penalty try and Wasps being reduced to 14 men.

And although the hosts added to their tally to lead 36-28 in the closing stages, Coles crashed over for his second score before Saints scythed through their opponents from restart, with Skosan finishing off the move out wide in a dramatic finish.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Heineken Champions Cup contenders Saracens maintained their 100% start in the Premiership as they picked up a 34-14 win at Newcastle Falcons.

Alex Lewington, Kapeli Pifeleti, Alex Lozowski and Max Malins (2) all crossed for the away side, though a red card for Mako Vunipola was a slight blemish on a positive afternoon.

In the TOP 14, Lyon defeated fellow Heineken Champions Cup side Union Bordeaux-Bègles 36-21 thanks to tries from Beka Saghinadze, Jordan Taufua and Ethan Dumortier, in addition to 21 points from Leo Berdeu.

Louis Bielle-Biarrey and Jefferson Poirot got over for Bordeaux, with Matthieu Jalibert adding three penalties and a conversion.
