Munster Rugby centre Rory Scannell has admitted his side are “under no illusions” as they travel to face Edinburgh Rugby in a record 18th European Cup quarter-final on Saturday at BT Murrayfield. The Irish province got the better of Edinburgh when the sides met in Guinness PRO14 action in Cork last November, but the Scottish team will have home advantage this weekend, having topped Heineken Champions Cup Pool 5 with 23 points. Munster finished top of Pool 2 with 21 points, but Scannell – who scored tries in victories over Castres Olympique and Gloucester Rugby – pointed out that they will not be taking Saturday’s opponents lightly, especially after they beat defending champions Leinster Rugby last Friday. “They’ve improved massively under Richard Cockerill and that win over Leinster will fill them with confidence,” said the 25-year-old. “They have made massive strides and we are under no illusions how tough it will be at Murrayfield. https://twitter.com/Munsterrugby/status/1110149073678618624 “Edinburgh have a great line-out and scrum, as well as some dangerous backs, so it should make for a great game. “We’ve just fallen short in the last two years, but a lot of the squad have got experience now and we have the ambition to go one step further. “The weekend is obviously a big challenge and we are not taking Saturday lightly, but that is the ambition.” The Ireland international also highlighted how important the Heineken Champions Cup is to Munster, having reached a record 18th knockout stage thanks to a 9-7 home victory over Exeter Chiefs in Round 6. [jwplayer AhOyk2ij] “When I broke into the squad, we were going through a tough patch,” Scannell added. “It’s a big thing for the club reaching 18 quarter-finals and plenty of the lads in the squad have played in some of them. “Europe is a massive occasion for the club and we really enjoy playing in it.
