Round 1: Stade Rochelais 20 Glasgow Warriors 13

La Rochelle fought back from 6-0 and 13-10 down to register a hard-fought home win over Glasgow, with the try count being crucial as Reda Wardi and Eneriko Buliruarua crossed for scores that were both goaled by Ihaia West, who also kicked two penalties.

Round 3: Stade Rochelais 39 Bath Rugby 21

Stade Marcel Deflandre again proved a happy hunting ground for La Rochelle in Round 3 – after their Round 2 game at Bath had been declared a 0-0 draw due to Covid – as two tries from Rémi Picquette and one apiece from Jonathan Danty, Dillyn Leyds and Raymond Rhule saw them cruise home against the English club. Pierre Popelin kicked 14 points.

Round 4: Glasgow Warriors 30 Stade Rochelais 38

La Rochelle completed the double over Glasgow in Round 4, but the Scottish region again took them all the way. Trailing 16-15, the TOP 14 team stormed into a 35-16 lead before Glasgow rallied strongly. Pierre Popelin was again a key figure with 15 points, while the visitors’ tries came from Raymond Rhule, Paul Boudehent, Pierre Bourgarit and Pierre Boudehent.

Round of 16 - 1st leg: Union Bordeaux-Bègles 13 Stade Rochelais 31

La Rochelle led for almost the whole match at Stade Chaban-Delmas as they made the second leg a virtual formality, with Ihaia West punishing Bordeaux’s indiscipline via four penalties. He also converted Raymond Rhule’s try and there were further scores from Jonathan Danty and a penalty try.

Round of 16 – 2nd leg: Stade Rochelais 31 Union Bordeaux-Bègles 23

Ihaia West, Grégory Alldritt, Tawera Kerr-Barlow and Levani Botia all scored tries for the hosts at Stade Marcel-Deflandre as La Rochelle coasted to a 62-36 aggregate victory over their TOP 14 rivals. West converted all four and kicked a penalty to finish with 16 points.

Quarter-finals: Stade Rochelais 31 Montpellier Hérault Rugby 19

Ihaia West was once more on the mark with his goalkicking as he again contributed 16 points to La Rochelle’s comfortable victory over another TOP 14 rival. Dany Priso, Victor Vito and Levani Botia were La Rochelle’s try-scorers at the Stade Marcel Deflandre.

Semi-finals: Racing 92 13 Stade Rochelais 20

La Rochelle battled back from a 10-0 deficit at Stade Bollaert-Delelis in Lens to seal their second successive Heineken Champions Cup final. Grégory Alldritt’s try, a penalty try and eight points from the boot of Ihaia West turned things around in a further all-French club tie.
