Bristol’s Challenge Cup final opponents Toulon suffered a 39-19 defeat in the Top 14 against Heineken Champions Cup semi-finalists Toulouse.

Toulouse responded from their last four defeat against Exeter by taking a 25-0 lead into the break, with Matthis Lebel, Cheslin Kolbe and Lucas Tauzin on the scoresheet as well as fly-half Romain Ntamack adding 10 points from the kicking tee.

Toulon responded admirably in the second period, with 20-year-old Simon Monetti and 19-year-old debutant Clement Egiziano as well as Anthony Meric touching down but they would eventually succumb to a 39-19 defeat.

Bristol and Toulon will face-off in the Challenge Cup final on October 16 at Stade Maurice-David in Aix-en-Provence, live on BT Sport from 20:00 (UK and Irish time).
