The 26-year-old has scored 14 tries in 27 games in EPCR competitions, including three in three in last season’s Heineken Champions Cup.

He lifted the EPCR Challenge Cup with Clermont in 2019, crossing for a hat-trick against Northampton Saints in the quarter-finals before dotting down against Harlequins in the semi-finals and Stade Rochelais in the final.

Penaud, a 37-time France international, has played the entirety of Clermont’s two Heineken Champions Cup games this season – a 24-14 home win over DHL Stormers and a 23-16 loss at Leicester Tigers.

“We are very pleased to announce Damian's arrival at UBB for the next three seasons,” Bordeaux President Laurent Marti said after Penaud’s move from their TOP 14 rivals was confirmed.

“His choice to come to Bordeaux is indicative of the attractiveness of the club, our ambition and our determination to continue to grow.”

Penaud is set to feature for Clermont in Round 3 of the Heineken Champions Cup as they welcome Leicester Tigers to Stade Marcel-Michelin on January 13.
