Bordeaux secured a maiden appearance in the last four via a dramatic 24-21 win over 2020 finalists Racing 92 last weekend, with fly-half Matthieu Jalibert kicking a last-minute penalty from inside his own half.

Now they take on four-time winners Toulouse, whom Urios describes as the competition favourites, at Stade Ernest Wallon on May 1.

“It's certainly not an easy draw,” he said. “We’ve played a good side in Bristol Bears and then a regular in the Heineken Champions Cup in Racing 92. And now we play arguably the favourites in the competition in Toulouse.

“We are obviously very happy to be in the semi-finals of this competition and it’s a huge meeting, but we won’t be putting on any pressure. We go there to surprise them and try to compete against the best in France and in Europe.”

Bordeaux captain Jefferson Poirot stressed that although his side are the new kids on the block, they are not getting too excited yet, even though a European title is within touching distance.

“For one of the newer teams, getting to the semi-finals of the Heineken Champions Cup, having beaten Challenge Cup winners Bristol Bears and last season’s finalists in Racing 92, is good for the club and the group of players,” Poirot said.

“But we cannot be too pleased by our efforts so far, because it is not the end of the season either and we want to win this competition.”

Bordeaux-Bègles head coach Christophe Urios insists his side will have no pressure on them when they travel to Toulouse next month for their Heineken Champions Cup semi-final.
