Lock Kpoku, who shone as Lyon reached their first European final, insisted his team had remained focused, despite trailing 8-3 at half-time.

Although under pressure, Lyon hit back with tries from Leo Berdeu and Yanis Charcosset, with the former converting both and adding a penalty.

Kpoku told BT Sport: “We knew what we had to do really. It was more about believing in ourselves and not letting our discipline let them into the game.

“That was all that was said at half-time. Just be disciplined and let’s go back at them.

“We did that in the second half and thankfully got the win in the end.”

Wasps felt frustrated that they did not convert pressure into enough points, but they could not deny Lyon’s battling qualities.

“Thankfully, we managed to get our W today against a great Wasps side that really tested us from minute one to 80," Kpoku added.

“I am massively grateful just to be here and represent Lyon. I can’t wait for the final now.

“It’s a great feeling. We've been chasing this for a long time. To finally be here now just feels surreal.

“We have one more game to win and hopefully we can get that W there.”

Kpoku has grown in stature after joining Lyon from Saracens last November, and feels there is great potential throughout the squad.

He said: “This is only the start, I would say. There's a lot more to come from this group.”
