La Rochelle maintained their dominant start to their first ever Champions Cup campaign with a bonus-point victory over Ulster at Stade Marcel Deflandre.

The hosts led 13-10 at half-time, with Jeremy Senzelle scoring their try and Christian Lealiifano replying in kind.

La Rochelle ran riot in the second period, as Victor Vito, Kevin Gourdon, Pierre Aguillon and Jason Eaton all went over, while Ulster added a late consolation try from Tommy Bowe.

Having amassed 10 points from 10 in their opening two matches, La Rochelle went on to top the pool before losing to Scarlets in the quarter-finals.

Ulster gained revenge over their French opponents with a solid display at a raucous Kingspan Stadium.

Tries from Rory Best, Jacob Stockdale and Nick Timoney proved the difference as Ulster kept their knockout qualification hopes alive.

Alexis Bales scored all of La Rochelle’s points in a losing cause.

Both sides finished the pool stage with four wins and two defeats, but La Rochelle’s three extra bonus points earned them top spot, with Ulster ending up third.
