Lyon embark on their third Heineken Champions Cup campaign - having won just one of their 12 fixtures over their first two seasons in the competition.

Last season

Lyon finished third in Pool 1 in a group that included the highly-fancied Leinster Rugby, Northampton Saints and Benetton Rugby. The highlight of the French club’s campaign was a 28-0 home triumph over Italian side Benetton, their first win in the tournament.

Head coach

Pierre Mignoni is starting his sixth season at the helm. A European Rugby Challenge Cup winner as a player in 2007 with ASM Clermont Auvergne, the 43-year-old former France scrum-half guided Lyon to the Pro D2 title in 2016, after moving from RC Toulon, where he was backs coach.

Key players

Among Lyon’s most prominent players are French internationals Demba Bamba, Félix Lambey and Mathieu Bastareaud, who has been moved from the centre to No.8, as well as New Zealander centre Charlie Ngatai and Fijian winger Josua Tuisova.

Pool fixtures

Lyon have been drawn to face Glasgow Warriors and Gloucester Rugby. They have already met Glasgow, in 2018/19, when the French club lost both matches.
