With the Heineken Champions Cup fixtures announced last week, we have chosen four matches which will be keeping everyone on the edge of their seats on the opening weekend. Leinster Rugby v Wasps   The competition begins with an absolute cracker in Pool 1 as the defending champions, Leinster Rugby, come up against two-time European Cup winners, Wasps, at the RDS Arena. The two sides have enjoyed closely-fought battles in the past with nine games resulting in four wins apiece and a sole draw. They were last drawn together in the Pool stage of Europe’s elite club competition three seasons ago, when Wasps ran out winners in both matches. During the 2016/17 season, the two teams found themselves in front of each other again, this time in the knockout stage, and at the Aviva Stadium Leinster ran out 32-17 winners. With a plethora of international start across both sides and Leinster looking to start the defence of their title off on the right now, the 2018/19 season opener should be a corker! https://twitter.com/ChampionsCup/status/1030436724600725505 Bath Rugby v Toulouse  The first game that will be broadcast free-to-air on Channel 4 and TV3 will see Bath Rugby welcome Toulouse to The Recreation Ground. Bath Rugby defeated Toulouse 35-18 when they last met in 2015, with tries from wing Matt Banahan, scrum-half Chris Cook, centre Jonathan Joseph and back-row Francois Louw. This time round could see a pair of world class openside flankers facing off in the form of Louw and Toulouse new signing Jerome Kaino. After a season in the Challenge Cup, Toulouse are aiming to become the first side to win the competition for a fifth time and that’s a goal that Leinster will also have in their sights. Scarlets v Racing 92  There is likely to be fireworks in Pool 4 when last year’s finalists Racing 92 travel to Parc y Scarlets to take on 2018 semi-finalists Scarlets. Racing 92 have brought in two British and Irish Lions over the summer with Simon Zebo and Finn Russell joining the Parisians. https://twitter.com/SimonZebo/status/1024334151577690114 Meanwhile, Scarlets will want to carry on where they left off from last season with their dynamic running and counter-attacking back-line causing all sorts of problems for their opponents. The two sides have played each other four times with Racing 92 coming out victorious on two occasions, with the last match between the clubs ending in a record defeat for Scarlets as the French outfit won 64-14 in Paris.  Glasgow Warriors v Saracens   The final match of the opening weekend  will see two-time champions Saracens travel to Scotland as they face Glasgow Warriors in Pool 3. Saracens have made it out of the pool stages in the last seven seasons and seek to add a third European title to their mantlepiece, but they face a tricky opening game against the club they last faced in the quarter-final two years ago, winning 38-13. Glasgow Warriors will want to put that defeat right and the full-backs, Stuart Hogg and Alex Goode, will be a clash to look out for with their mazy runs, quick feet and play-making skills likely to catch the eyes of the spectators at Scotstoun Stadium.
