2010: Biarritz Olympique 29 Ospreys 28

Damien Traille landed three drop-goals for Biarritz as they edged out Ospreys in a classic European Cup quarter-final in San Sebastian.

In a match that swung back and forth throughout, Nikki Walker scored a late try for the Welsh region to set up a grandstand finish, but Dan Biggar could not slot a late drop-goal attempt to snatch a spot in the last four.

2011: Northampton Saints 22 Leinster Rugby 33

In one of the greatest European finals of all time, Leinster produced a remarkable second-half fightback to deny Northampton in Cardiff.

Tries from Phil Dowson, Ben Foden and Dylan Hartley put Northampton 22-6 up at the break, but Leinster responded with a stunning 27-point blitz in 26 minutes. Johnny Sexton bagged two tries in a 28-point haul in what was arguably his greatest match for Leinster.

2012: Edinburgh Rugby 19 Toulouse 14

Edinburgh reached a maiden European Cup semi-final by toppling four-time winners Toulouse at BT Murrayfield.

Mike Blair gave Edinburgh the lead, before Toulouse responded with a trio of Lionel Beauxis penalties and a try from Timoci Matanavou. However, Greig Laidlaw punished the French side with three penalties of his own as well as a drop-goal to send Edinburgh through.

2013: ASM Clermont Auvergne 15 RC Toulon 16

Toulon fly-half Jonny Wilkinson kicked 11 points to guide the French side to their first European Cup in a tense final in Dublin.

Clermont scored two quick tries through Napolioni Nalaga and Brock James, before Delon Armitage responded with a Toulon try, but it was Wilkinson’s exceptional kicking that proved the difference between the two sides.

2014: Ulster Rugby 15 Saracens 17

Saracens were made to sweat for a spot in the European Cup semi-finals as they were chased all the way by 14-man Ulster.

A brace of Chris Ashton tries and one from Mouritz Botha put Saracens 17-9 ahead and although Paddy Jackson got Ulster within two points with a pair of penalties, Saracens hung on for a spot in the last four.

2015: RC Toulon 25 Leinster Rugby 20 (AET)

Bryan Habana scored one of the best European Cup tries to help Toulon reach a third consecutive final via an extra-time victory over Leinster in Marseille.

The match was 12-12 at full-time but exploded into life in the added period with a try from Sean O’Brien and further penalties from Leigh Halfpenny, before Habana’s stunning interception sealed victory for the French club.

2016: Wasps 25 Exeter Chiefs 24

Jimmy Gopperth was the Wasps hero as he converted Charles Piutau’s try in the dying seconds to send his side into the Champions Cup semi-finals.

Gareth Steenson had kicked Exeter 24-11 ahead, but Frank Halai launched the fightback with a try, before Piutau and Gopperth teamed up to send the home fans delirious with the clock in the red.

2017: ASM Clermont Auvergne 27 Leinster Rugby 22

Clermont saw off a determined fightback by Leinster to reach the Champions Cup final in Edinburgh.

Tries from Peceli Yato and David Strettle put Clermont 15-0 up, but 12 points from the boot of Johnny Sexton narrowed the gap before a grandstand finish.

2018: Munster Rugby 20 RC Toulon 19

Andrew Conway scored a late try to send Munster into the Champions Cup semi-finals, seeing off Toulon in a topsy-turvy encounter.

The visitors took the lead through a try from Chris Ashton and some excellent kicking from Francois Trinh-Duc, but couldn’t cling on as Conway scored what turned out to be one of the tries of the season.

2019: Racing 92 21 Toulouse 22

Four-time European Cup winners Toulouse squeezed past Racing in a pulsating Heineken Champions Cup quarter-final in Paris, despite being a man light for 58 minutes.

Racing were 10-7 ahead when Zach Holmes was sent off for a high tackle, but Toulouse would not let the hosts press home that advantage, tries from Maxime Medard and Antoine Dupont sealing victory.
