Our five to watch segment in next season’s Heineken Champions Cup now focuses on the crucial fly-half position, with several European Cup winners and record-holders on the list. Pool 1: Johnny Sexton (Leinster Rugby) The four-time European Cup winner may be in the twilight of his illustrious career, but he still manages to produce outstanding displays when it matters. Sexton, 34, struggled with injury throughout the 2018/19 campaign, but when fit and healthy, the Ireland veteran has been a creative spark for the Leinster back line in 70 European appearances. Pool 2: Adam Hastings (Glasgow Warriors) Son of Gavin and nephew of Scott, Hastings is a chip off the old block. The 22-year-old's talent at running with the ball, creating space and kicking behind defences is terrific to watch. The Scotland international was massively impressive for the Warriors last season, scoring 45 points in six matches as they reached the last eight. Pool 3: Marcus Smith (Harlequins) A running fly-half who enjoys nothing more than having the ball in hand, Smith will be looking to build on the favourable impression he made in his first season in the Champions Cup in 2017/18. The 20-year-old attracted numerous plaudits last term in Quins’ Challenge Cup campaign, when they reached the semi-finals and he scored 59 points in the competition. [jwplayer KBEs2zmv] Pool 4: Owen Farrell (Saracens) Perhaps the most consistent fly-half in world rugby, Farrell added a third Champions Cup winners’ medal to his collection last season after kicking 10 points in Saracens’ 20-10 victory over Leinster in the final. The England captain is the epicentre of Saracens’ back line and in conjunction with Alex Goode, delivers creativity all over the field to inflict nightmares on defence coaches. Pool 5: Handre Pollard (Montpellier) Pollard arrives at Montpellier with a huge reputation as an impressive goalkicker and an imposing presence at fly-half, and will surely turn the TOP 14 club into trophy contenders next season.
