The utility back was part of the Champions Cup-winning squads of 2016, 2017 and 2019, and is back at the club after a sabbatical in Japan all set for the new campaign.

“There’s still a big group of us who have been through some of those tough journeys and those tough games, and even those finals where we’ve had to grind out wins,” said the 33-year-old.

“We know how special Europe is. We know how hard it is as well to win away from home in the group stages and in any knockout stages, so the good thing is we’ve got those experiences.

“But this is a new team now and there are a lot of new guys who haven’t had those challenges, so that’s part of our growth and we’ve got to learn on the go.”

Saracens face Edinburgh Rugby, Section Paloise, London Irish and CA Brive in the pool stage – and Goode thinks the two away games in France could be pivotal.

“My experience with European rugby is that if you can get some wins on the road, then it goes a long way to helping you,” he said. “You’ve got to win your home games, of course, but it’s those away games that prove the difference.

“We’ve got to go to [two places] in the south of France in December, January, which will be a tough time to go there. The weather won’t be great and it will be hostile, so that’s the challenge.”
