Berdeu slotted 10 points in the final at Stade Vélodrome to round off a superb EPCR Challenge Cup for both himself and Lyon. Over the course of the competition the 23-year-old kicked 14 penalties and 12 conversions in addition to crossing for a try against Wasps in the semi-finals.

Tries – Santiago Socino (Gloucester Rugby), 5

The hooker may have been on the losing side against Saracens in the quarter-finals, but his five scores in five games see him end as this season’s leading try-scorer. Socino dotted down for a hat-trick against Dragons in Round 5 as well as going over in wins against USAP and Northampton Saints.

Carries – Billy Vunipola (Saracens), 70

The No.8 was a driving force when called upon by Saracens and made 20 more carries than his nearest challenger in the statistic, averaging 11.7 per game as his side were knocked out in the semi-finals.

Metres – Davit Niniashvili (Lyon), 689

The Georgian was one of the stars of Lyon’s triumphant campaign, showcasing his incredible attacking talent throughout. The teenager, who grabbed three tries, was by far the competition’s most effective player with ball in hand, gaining 248 more metres than his closest rival in the statistic.

Line breaks – Leo Berdeu (Lyon) and Davit Niniashvili (Lyon), 8

Berdeu and Niniashvili were constant threats for Lyon, a side whose scintillating performances were highlighted in this category. Clement Laporte (6) and Ethan Dumortier (6) were joint-third for line breaks as the champions dominated the statistic.

Defenders beaten - Davit Niniashvili (Lyon), 24

As shown by his appearances across several attacking categories, Niniashvili proved a difficult man to stop this season. Special mentions should go to Biarritz Olympique’s Steeve Barry and Dragons’ Taine Basham, who beaten 22 and 20 defenders respectively despite playing two less matches than the Lyon wing.

Offloads - Davit Niniashvili (Lyon), 14

Another area which showcases Lyon’s attractive style of rugby is offloads. Six of the top eight leading players in the statistic all hail from the French club.

Tackles – Grant Gilchrist (Edinburgh Rugby), 74

The lock was a domineering presence in the Edinburgh rearguard as they reached the quarter-finals, missing just three tackles in six games. The Scottish region’s defensive efforts are exemplified by Pierre Schoeman (56) and Magnus Bradbury (56) also appearing among the competition’s top four tacklers.

Lineouts – Federico Ruzza (Benetton Rugby), 39

Benetton were eliminated by eventual finalists Toulon in the Round of 16, but that didn’t stop lock Ruzza establishing himself as the leading man in the lineout. The Italy international was one of only four players to claim over 30 lineouts, and stole an additional five in the five games he featured in.

Turnovers – Patrick Sobela (Lyon), 9

For all their attacking talent, Lyon were also a threat at the breakdown, with back-rows Sobela and Colby Fainga’a (8) the competition’s top jackals.
