The 24-year-old Irish international says that confidence is growing in the squad ahead of their final clash with Stade Rochelais in Marseille on Saturday.

And with Leinster having powered past 2021 champions Stade Toulousain 40-17 in their semi-final, there is every reason for Doris’ optimism.

He said: “I think there is a lot of belief and a lot of trust in the squad, both in each other and what we are doing, and how we are training.

“There’s also a lot of hurt from the last couple of seasons, so there’s always big motivation when it comes to Europe. It’s the pinnacle of club rugby.

“I think that there’s a bit of a feeling of if not now, then when? It feels like there’s a lot of things going right at the minute.

“Obviously La Rochelle are a quality team and it’s going to be extremely tough.”

While Leinster are confident their fast-paced game can prove La Rochelle’s undoing, Doris said they must be prepared to vary their tactics if needed.

Indeed, La Rochelle may have something of a psychological advantage after defeating Leinster 32-23 in last season’s semi-final and are likely to favour a more close-quarter forward battle.

Doris said: “We are hoping that won’t be the case and we are going to do what we can to keep the tempo high and play how we want to play.

“But there’s obviously two teams involved in it, so we have got to prepare for all scenarios and cases and expect them to try and slow the ball down and maybe make it more of an up-front battle.

“We are going to try and impose our game on them rather than trying to contain them or play how they are going to play against us.

“It’s still going to be trying to impose our attacking game on them, that will still be the plan.”

One difference between Leinster’s last final appearance in Newcastle in 2019 and this time in Marseille will be the heat, but Doris is confident that will not be an issue.

He said: “There’s a few guys wearing woolly hats and jackets and double layers today, so there might be a bit of that.

“It’s an evening kick-off, so we will probably be past the peak heat of the day.

“It was definitely pretty hot and pretty humid on Saturday, so I think having that is a good stepping stone anyway and preparation for what’s to come.”
