Most titles: ASM Clermont Auvergne, Harlequins (3)

It took Clermont only three attempts to win their first Challenge Cup – in 1999, when they were known as Montferrand and routed Bourgoin 35-16 in the final.

Harlequins landed their first Challenge Cup two years later after a thriller, which saw them pip Narbonne 42-33 after extra time, and then they nudged ahead following a dramatic 2004 final, in which Quins squeezed home 27-26 against Montferrand.

Clermont drew level under their current name in 2007 via a 22-16 victory over Bath Rugby, only for Quins to pull clear again in 2011 thanks to another single-point success – against Stade Français Paris, whom they edged 19-18.

However, the TOP 14 side squared matters in 2019, when they overpowered La Rochelle 36-16 in the final.

Most tries, aggregate points, highest score and winning margin: Saracens

All these match records are held by the English club thanks to their 151-0 home drubbing of Dinamo Bucuresti in Round 1 of the 2002-03 campaign, when they ran in 23 tries.

They even achieved the highest aggregate score in a game, with the next closest being the 126 points in Bristol Bears’ 107-19 home demolition of Enisei-STM in 2018-19.

Most match points in pool stage: Ospreys, ASM Clermont Auvergne (30)

Ospreys were the first to do the maximum, in 2016-17, when they won all six of their matches and earned a bonus point in each, scoring 279 points and conceding just 51 in total.

Two years later Clermont matched that achievement on the way to winning the competition, after chalking up 304 points in their pool and letting in only 117.

Most points scored in a season: Saracens (450)

Despite getting beaten 17-15 at home by Pontypridd in the 2001/02 quarter-finals, Saracens hold the points record thanks largely to two 113-3 home victories – against Dinamo Bucuresti and Bologna – and running up 75 points in both away games against the pair in the pool stage.

Gloucester Rugby have come the closest to bettering that feat, amassing 444 in 2005-06, when they won the competition.

Best winning run: Gloucester Rugby (15)

Gloucester won every single game in their victorious 2014-15 EPCR Challenge Cup campaign and followed up those nine wins with six more in 2015-16 before losing 21-23 at home to Newport Gwent Dragons in the quarter-finals.

Most matches: Connacht Rugby (127)

Despite holding this record, the Irish province have never won the competition, making it as far as the semi-finals three times.
