Leicester Tigers may be making their European Rugby Challenge Cup debut next season, but they are the second-best represented club in England’s Rugby World Cup squad. Only Heineken Champions Cup winners Saracens have more players in England’s 31-man party for Japan than Leicester’s six, which includes prop Dan Cole and scrum-half Ben Youngs, the most-capped players in the squad with 86 Tests. They will be playing in their third Rugby World Cup, with Youngs having amassed 68 European appearances in 12 seasons and Cole 55 in 11, while prop Ellis Genge will be featuring in his first after playing nine Champions Cup ties in three campaigns. Fly-half George Ford and wing Jonny May – who won the Challenge Cup in 2015 with Gloucester Rugby – make up the rest of the Leicester contingent, having both played for England in the 2015 Rugby World Cup. Meanwhile, fellow Challenge Cup side Wasps have one representative in the England squad in lock Joe Launchbury, who has made 39 European appearances for the Coventry-based club. They face Agen, Bordeaux-Begles and Edinburgh Rugby on their return to the competition in Pool 3.
