European Cup record

Dragons are yet to reach the knockout rounds of the tournament despite qualifying seven times in eight years between 2003 and 2011. They have progressed to the last four of the Challenge Cup on three occasions.

Last season

Four wins in Pool 1 of the Challenge Cup saw Dragons advance to the last eight in second place behind Castres. Their progress would be abruptly halted though with a heavy 56=17 defeat to eventual winners Bristol Bears.

Director of rugby

Dean Ryan – The former England international played in the Premiership for 11 years, turning out for Saracens, London Wasps, Newcastle Falcons and Bristol – where he would go to take the reins in his first coaching role. He also took charge of Worcester Warriors and the Barbarians side before a three-year stint with the RFU. He was named Director of Rugby at Dragons in 2019.

Key players

Jared Rosser, Adam Warren and Taine Basham all crossed the whitewash three times in the Challenge Cup last season, while fly-half Sam Davies registered 67 points – making him the third highest points-scorer in the competition. Richard Hibbard and Wales legend Jamie Roberts have over 130 international caps between them.

Pool fixtures

In Pool A Dragons will face Wasps – a side that beat them twice during their last outing in the Heineken Champions Cup in the 2010/11 season – and French outfit Bordeaux-Bègles in a re-run of the 2018/19 pool stage that saw both sides pick up home victories at the other’s expense.
