Elsewhere in the Premiership, there were two all-EPCR Challenge Cup contests as Gloucester Rugby won 35-30 against Northampton Saints at Kingsholm Stadium and London Irish claimed a 43-12 victory over Worcester Warriors at Brentford Community Stadium.

Harry Elrington, Tom Seabrook, Louis Rees-Zammit and Alex Craig crossed in addition to a penalty try as Gloucester, who have already sealed their qualification for the EPCR Challenge Cup Round of 16 through Pool B, battled back from 27-14 down.

In the United Rugby Championship on Saturday, three EPCR Challenge Cup teams were handed bruising defeats as Benetton Rugby lost 61-17 at home to Leinster Rugby, Dragons went down 64-3 at Munster Rugby and Glasgow Warriors were beaten 35-10 at Scarlets.

Nicola Piantella and Lorenzo Cannone scored consolation tries for Benetton, Sam Davies kicked Dragons’ points and Jonny Matthews dotted down for Glasgow.

In the TOP 14, RC Toulon picked up a 45-17 win at Biarritz Olympique in a contest which will be repeated in Round 5 of the EPCR Challenge Cup next month when the two sides go head-to-head in Pool A.

A penalty try and scores from Gervais Cordin, Aymeric Luc, Jules Danglot and Louis Carbonel – the latter of whom tallied 21 points on the day – saw Toulon ease to victory at Parc des Sports Aguiléra. Tevita Kuridrani and Tomas Cubelli dotted down for Biarritz.

Benjamín Urdapilleta scored a try and kicked 10 points as Castres Olympique, another side dropping into the EPCR Challenge Cup from the Heineken Champions Cup, won 25-9 at home against Montpellier Hérault Rugby. Adrea Cocagi and Thomas Combezou also crossed for the hosts.

Tries from Tumua Manu (2) and Antoine Hastoy saw EPCR Challenge Cup Pool C outfit Section Paloise triumph 23-16 at Union Bordeaux-Bègles.

Meanwhile, Pool B counterparts USAP beat Racing 92 34-13 at Stade Aimé Giral thanks to scores from Genesis Mamea Lemalu, Bautista Delguy, George Tilsley and Joaquin Oviedo, in addition to 14 points from Tristan Tedder.

Elsewhere, CA Brive lost 41-15 at Stade Rochelais - Valentin Tireforte and Florian Dufour grabbed the Pool C side’s tries – and Lyon went down 25-16 at ASM Clermont Auvergne. The already-confirmed Pool B winners’ points were provided by the boot of Léo Berdeu and a Pierre-Louis Barassi try.
