2010: London Wasps 15 Cardiff Blues 18

A late penalty miss from Wasps’ Dave Walder ensured Cardiff Blues avoided extra-time in their Challenge Cup semi-final at Adams Park and went through to meet RC Toulon in the Marseille final, which they won 28-21.

It was harsh on Walder, who had kicked all Wasps points, but the Welsh region deserved their narrow victory by scoring the game’s only tries, via Leigh Halfpenny and Gethin Jenkins.

2011: Harlequins 19 Stade Francais Paris 18

Harlequins became the first three-time winners of the Challenge Cup when Nick Evans landed a last-gasp touchline conversion of Gonzalo Camacho’s try to defeat Stade Francais Paris at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Evans’ superb kick crowned a match-winning display which also included four penalties to cancel out four by Stade’s Lionel Beauxis. Stade’s other points came from Mathieu Bastareaud and Martin Rodriguez drop-goals.

2012: Biarritz Olympique 21 RC Toulon 18

Dimitri Yachvili produced an immaculate goalkicking performance to give Biarritz their first European trophy and keep Toulon waiting for theirs at Twickenham Stoop.

The France scrum-half outscored Jonny Wilkinson by landing seven penalties from seven attempts, whereas the England legend had to be content with five and a drop-goal.

2013: Perpignan 22 Stade Francais Paris 25

Jerome Porical returned to Perpignan to haunt his old club by kicking the match-winning penalty with extra time looming in a dramatic semi-final.

Porical’s kick from halfway, which came off both post and crossbar, took his match tally to 20 points, with David Lyons’ try providing the other five. James Hook had dominated Perpignan’s scoring with 17 points.

2014: London Wasps 18 Bath Rugby 24

Two-try Rob Webber spearheaded a Bath comeback from 13-10 down at half-time at Adams Park as they reached their first Challenge Cup final since 2008.

Anthony Perenise had put Bath ahead with their other try, but Wasps responded through Will Helu before Webber’s salvo. Ashley Johnson cut Bath’s lead, but the visitors held out.

2015: Newport Gwent Dragons 25 Cardiff Blues 21

Dragons produced a brilliant comeback to thwart Cardiff and reach their first Challenge Cup semi-final since 2007.

Blues marched 14-3 ahead via tries from Lloyd Williams and Gareth Anscombe, but Hallam Amos replied before half-time. A Nic Cudd score and a penalty try pulled Dragons clear, and they hung on despite a late Josh Navidi try.

2016: Grenoble 33 Connacht Rugby 32

Jonathan Wisniewski was Grenoble’s hero as the French club recovered from 16-point and 13-point deficits in each half to reach the Challenge Cup semi-finals.

He netted 23 points via a try, three conversions, three penalties and a drop-goal to see the home club through, despite being outscored by four tries to three, with Niyi Adeolokun notching a brace for Connacht.

2017: La Rochelle 14 Gloucester Rugby 16

Billy Burns guided Gloucester into their second Challenge Cup final in three seasons as they clung on to edge an enthralling semi-final at La Rochelle.

The fly-half scored all their points via an interception try that he converted plus three penalties, before the French club, level at half-time at 6-6, replied with an unconverted Damien Lagrange try to add to Brock James’ three penalties.

2018: Cardiff Blues 31 Gloucester Rugby 30

Cardiff lifted the Challenge Cup for the second time after Gareth Anscombe slotted a 78th minute penalty to decide a thriller in Bilbao in Danny Wilson’s final match as head coach.

Both teams scored three tries, but it was the Welsh region’s extra penalty that clinched victory, with Jarrod Evans notching 13 points before Anscombe’s nerveless kick and Billy Twelvetrees chalking up 15 for Gloucester.

2019: Worcester Warriors 16 Harlequins 18

Harlequins qualified for their sixth Challenge Cup semi-final after Demetri Catrakilis landed a 75th minute penalty to decide a topsy-turvy affair.

The English clubs traded two tries, but in the end Demetri Catrakilis’ single conversion proved the difference, although it was his 75th minute penalty that actually sealed victory.
