2006: Cardiff Blues 17 Leicester Tigers 21

Leicester bounced back from a narrow home loss to Munster in their Heineken Cup Pool 4 opener to score a dramatic victory against 14-man Cardiff at the Millennium Stadium in their first European match against the Welsh side.

Nicky Robinson and Chris Czekaj notched excellent first-half tries for the Blues that were converted by Ben Blair, but home errors permitted Leicester to hit back with two tries of their own, through Tom Varndell and Ollie Smith, to open up a 15-14 interval lead as Andy Goode goaled one and kicked a penalty.

Gary Powell's 52nd-minute red card for a head-butt dashed Cardiff’s hopes of victory, Andy Goode's second penalty and Sam Vesty's drop-goal clinching victory for the visitors, although the Blues did have the consolation of a bonus point following a Blair penalty.

2019: Cardiff Blues 11 Leicester Tigers 14

Tom Hardwick landed a penalty in the dying seconds to send Leicester to the top of Pool 5 in the European Rugby Challenge Cup in the sides’ first meeting in the competition at Cardiff Arms Park.

They had been deadlocked at 11-11 from the hour mark after Hardwick had wiped out his team’s three-point half-time deficit, following two Jarrod Evans penalties and an Aled Summerhill try for Cardiff, plus a Jordan Coughlan try and Hardwick penalty for the visitors.

Summerhill was denied a late try when he put a foot in touch after a brilliant last-ditch tackle from Sam Costelow, but then up stepped Harwick with the decisive blow when Cardiff were caught offside.

2020: Leicester Tigers 30 Cardiff Blues 20

Leicester completed the double over Cardiff and made it five wins from five in Pool 5 of the European Rugby Challenge Cup in an entertaining, five-try contest at Welford Road.

England fly-half George Ford was the Tigers’ match-winner with 15 points as they rallied from 14-10 down at half-time, when converted tries by Josh Adams and Ben Thomas gave the Blues the edge over the home team, whose sole response was Sam Lewis’ converted try and a Ford penalty.

It was a different story in the second period, when Jordan Olowofela and Ben White ran in tries for Leicester that were improved by Ford, who also landed two drop-goals. Cardiff could only reply with two Jason Tovey penalties.
