The unbeaten Pool 4 winners, who won five of their pool stage games, registered their first Gallagher Premiership victory since November by beating local rivals Gloucester Rugby 34-16 at Ashton Gate on Saturday.

Callum Sheedy, joint seventh in the Challenge Cup points chart with 40, was again the main source of the Bears’ points with 19, kicking five penalties and converting second-half tries by Henry Purdy and Mat Protheroe. Luke Morahan also touched down.

Bristol were the only Challenge Cup quarter-finalist to win at the weekend, with Leicester Tigers, RC Toulon, Castres Olympique and Bordeaux-Begles all losing.

Leicester, who topped Pool 5, succumbed 13-10 in their Premiership game at Bath to a late try, after Tom Hardwick had kicked a penalty and converted Ben White’s try to give the Tigers the lead.

Meanwhile in the TOP 14, Pool 1 winners Castres Olympique crashed 27-0 at home to Racing 92, Pool 2 table-toppers Toulon went down 27-12 at Lyon and Pool 3 winners Bordeaux-Begles lost 22-14 at Toulouse.

Bordeaux-Begles' points came from tries by EPCR European Player of the Year nominee Semi Radradra and Adrien Pelissie that were respectively improved by Ben Botica and Maxime Lucu, while Anthony Belleau scored all Toulon’s points with four penalties.

European Rugby Challenge Cup quarter-finalists Bristol Bears transferred their outstanding continental form onto the domestic scene at the weekend.
