European Rugby Challenge Cup side Bordeaux-Bègles have appointed two-time European Cup winner Joe Worsley as interim head coach following the departure of Rory Teague. The 41-year-old Englishman – who lifted the European Cup in 2004 and 2007 with Wasps, and the Challenge Cup with them in 2003 – takes over the reins with the French side third in Pool 3 of the Challenge Cup and eighth in the TOP 14. The former England and British and Irish Lions back-row forward enjoyed a fine European playing career, featuring in every match of Wasps’ successful European Cup campaign in 2004 and being named man of the match in their 27-20 final victory over Toulouse at Twickenham. Worsley, who was also a World Cup winner with England in 2003, lifted the European Cup for a second time when Wasps brushed aside Leicester Tigers 25-9, again at Twickenham, three years later. https://twitter.com/UBBrugby/status/1061928705000460288 When Worsley finished his playing career with Wasps in 2011 due to a neck injury, he had made 65 European appearances, including 57 in the European Cup, and scored 11 tries, with all bar one of them coming in Europe’s elite club competition. He then joined Bordeaux-Bègles as defence coach under Raphael Ibanez, before current France head coach Jacques Brunel took over in 2017. When Brunel departed to take charge of the national team in January, former Gloucester Rugby and Bristol fly-half Rory Teague took over, having spent a season on Eddie Jones’ England coaching staff.
