The TOP 14 outfit lifted the Heineken Champions Cup after Arthur Retiere’s late try handed them a dramatic 24-21 victory over Leinster Rugby in front of a crowd of 59,682 at Stade Vélodrome.

The La Rochelle faithful attended the game in Marseille in vast numbers, contributing to a terrific atmosphere and helping their team get over the line in the dying seconds.

“This victory is huge,” Alldritt said after the match as he struggled to comprehend what his side had achieved. “I am emptied.

“[When] I arrive in La Rochelle, I think I will realise. What makes the most fun is to bring the trophy back to the fans.

“I think they deserve it almost more than we do. They never let us go. When you see the Vélodrome, what more do you want? We just can't wait to give them the trophy. They are so wonderful.”

Veteran lock Romain Sazy, who came off the bench when La Rochelle were still trailing with five minutes to play, was also itching to return to the town.

“To have tasted it in 2014 when we were promoted, the old port of La Rochelle was impressive. Tomorrow (Sunday), it's going to be indescribable.”

Head coach Ronan O'Gara added: “I couldn’t recommend the place highly enough for holidays or a break. Come to La Rochelle. They’re decent people. This will really mean a lot to the supporters.”
