The fly-half scored a try and kicked 15 points as Toulon - who sit seventh in Pool A of the Heineken Champions Cup preliminary stage - picked up their ninth TOP 14 win of the season.

Stade Francais led briefly as Nicolas Sanchez slotted a penalty inside five minutes, but Toulon hit back through three points from Carbonel who then added a converted try to his name midway through the first half.

Toulon asserted their dominance over the remainder of the game, as Isaia Toeava, Christopher Tolofua and Bryce Heem all crossed for scores, along with two further penalties from Carbonel.

Etien dotted down for Stade Francais with ten minutes to go, but it would be too late for the visiting side to surmount a miracle comeback as Toulon cruised to victory.

In the Guinness PRO14, Connacht Rugby were beaten by Challenge Cup high-flyers Ospreys in an entertaining game at The Sportsground.

Connacht have lost both their games in the Heineken Champions Cup this season and were handed their fifth defeat in the PRO14 as Ospreys overturned a 17-5 half-time deficit.

George North’s try gave Ospreys the lead inside ten minutes, but a Stephen Fitzgerald penalty and tries from Alex Wootton and Paul Boyle gave Connacht a healthy advantage heading into the second half.

Two Ospreys tries in five minutes soon after the break from Mat Protheroe and Rhys Webb however tilted the score line in the visitors' favour.

Another Fitzgerald penalty would edge Connacht back in front shortly after, before a second Webb score just over ten minutes from time handed Ospreys an impressive away win.

The result leaves Connacht 11 points off Conference B leaders Munster Rugby, while Ospreys’ sixth win of the PRO14 season solidifies their position in third in Conference A.

Louis Carbonel produced a masterful performance as RC Toulon eased to a 35-13 win over Stade Francais Paris in the TOP 14.
