Glasgow, who will play Northampton Saints at home in their opening Champions Cup game of the season on Friday December 8, have 14 players in the 33-man Scotland squad.

Their pack leads the way, with Jamie Bhatti, Scott Cummings, Rory Darge, Jack Dempsey, brothers Matt and Zander Fagerson, and George Turner all called up.

With 75 caps, Glasgow lock Richie Gray is the most senior Scottish player at the tournament and is among those who will be representing their country at a third World Cup. Across his career, he has made 52 appearances in EPCR competitions and last featured in the Champions Cup with Glasgow Warriors during their last campaign in 2021-22, the Scottish side having reached the final of the EPCR Challenge Cup in their year out.

Amongst the backs, Glasgow’s Huw Jones, Ali Price. Kyle Steyn and Sione Tuipulotu will lead the way- but they’re not the only Scottish players from a Champions Cup side included in the 33.

Cameron Redpath from Bath Rugby makes the cut, as does his new clubmate flyhalf Finn Russell who has 71 caps. Russell joined Bath from Racing 92, with whom he featured in EPCR’s leading competition for the past four seasons - including in 2020, when he started in the final for Racing’s 31-27 loss to Exeter Chiefs.

RC Toulon’s scrum half Ben White is expected to get the nod to start and managed to be passed fit for the World Cup despite hobbling off against France at Murrayfield earlier this month.

Scotland face current World Cup champions South Africa in their opening World Cup match in Pool B, and will also meet Tonga, Romania and Ireland.
