Two-time Heineken Champions Cup winners Munster Rugby ran in seven tries in a thrilling 49-42 United Rugby Championship victory over Scarlets on Friday evening at Musgrave Park.

Patrick Campbell, Calvin Nash, Shane Daly (2) and Paddy Patterson notched in the first half of the contest as the Munster backfield produced some scintillating rugby to lead 35-7 at the interval.

Gavin Coombes and a second from Nash followed after the break as the Irish province held off a 35-point second half display from the visiting Welsh region. Fly-half Joey Carbery converted all seven tries as Munster held out to claim the victory.

Munster, who finished sixth in Heineken Champions Cup Pool B after a pair of close victories over Northampton Saints and two narrow defeats at the hands of five-time winners Stade Toulousain, moved up to fifth in URC table with the win.

They have been drawn away at Cell C Sharks in the Round of 16, They’ll travel to the Hollywoodbets Kings Park in Durban for the game on Saturday, April 1.
