Smith heroics for Quins

Quins made it three wins from three in Pool B as Marcus Smith scored 10 points in the final five minutes to hand his side a 36-33 win at Cardiff Rugby.

In an intriguing contest, Cardiff led by 14 points with an hour played as tries from Owen Lane (2), James Ratti, Dillon Lewis and Corey Domachowski rewarded them for a confident opening.

But Quins, who had earlier crossed through Louis Lynagh, Tyrone Green and Luke Northmore, began their incredible turnaround as Danny Care dotted down.

Smith converted and then went over himself on 75 minutes, adding the extras before slotting a penalty in the final act of the game.

Saumaki snatches Tigers win

Leicester also maintained a winning a start in Pool B as Hosea Saumaki dived over to earn a 29-28 victory at Connacht Rugby.

The two sides had scored four tries apiece heading into the closing stages, Tiernan O’Halloran (2), Cian Prendergast and Kieran Marmion notching Connacht’s efforts, with Joe Heyes, Kini Murimurivalu (2) and Charlie Clare replying for Leicester.

Jack Carty’s four conversions to Freddie Burns’ two looked set to be decisive for Connacht, but Saumaki struck on 79 minutes.

14-man Wasps stun Toulouse

Wasps overcame five-time European champions Toulouse 30-22 in Pool B despite seeing Jacob Umaga sent off on 33 minutes.

Biyi Alo, Brad Shields and Alfie Barbeary registered the Gallagher Premiership side’s tries, while Jimmy Gopperth kicked 15 points as Toulouse were outplayed at Coventry Building Society Arena.

Thrillers across the board

Round 3 produced a number of scintillating games, with Bristol Bears running out 28-17 winners after a breathless encounter with Stade Français Paris at Ashton Gate.

Gavin Coombes’ last-gasp try saw Munster Rugby win 16-13 at Castres Olympique, while a Michael Lowry brace helped Ulster Rugby to a crucial 24-20 victory at Northampton Saints.
