Bristol Bears director of rugby Pat Lam joins us this week on the Champions Rugby Show as he discusses his coaching career as well as his experiences of rugby in both hemispheres.
Lam takes us through his remarkable Heineken Champions Cup win with Northampton Saints in 2000 – but admits he never even wanted to sign for them! The Samoa legend also talks about his love for Newcastle and reveals the coaching masterclass that helped Connacht shock the world.
He also discussed his vision for Bristol Bears, saying: “When Steve Landsown asked me to come to Bristol, the first thing I wanted to know was his vision was.
“Secondly, I wanted him to understand what I actually do and that if you just want me to coach rugby, you’ve got the wrong guy.
“I needed to have a massive in game, culture and leadership which is what he has gave me here throughout the whole organisation because it can’t be that the first team do this and the academy do something completely different.
“Our values and culture has to go throughout the whole organisation if we are going to be successful.”
