A minute’s applause is to be held before all Heineken Champions Cup and European Rugby Challenge Cup quarter-finals at the end of the month in tribute to René Fontès, who passed away at the age of 77 on Sunday.
The Frenchman was a key figure in the transition of EPCR between 2014 and 2016, when he represented the Ligue Nationale de Rugby (LNR) on EPCR Board and executive committee.
EPCR extends a message of sincere condolence to René’s family and friends, to the Ligue Nationale de Rugby and to all at ASM Clermont Auvergne.
From 2011 until his death, René was on the Board of the LNR, having served from 2004 to 2013 as president of Clermont, who host Northampton Saints in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals on March 31.
