A late try by Elliott Stooke - converted by Jimmy Gopperth, who kicked 16 points – sealed victory for Wasps, who finished 10th in Pool B of the Heineken Champions Cup.

Wasps’ win, which inflicted a second successive Premiership defeat on Saracens, shows they will pose a strong threat when the EPCR Challenge Cup knockout phase begins in April.

Gopperth converted Sam Spink’s try and kicked four penalties to put Wasps 19-13 ahead in the second half, before Stooke’s effort sealed the victory.

Alex Lewington and Tom Woolstencroft crossed for Saracens in the first half, with Alex Lozowski adding a penalty. Lozowksi also converted Nick Tompkins’ try in the final seconds to earn Saracens a losing bonus point.

Meanwhile, Section Paloise, like Saracens in Pool C of the Challenge Cup and still in contention for a last-16 spot, upset Heineken Champions Cup last-16 qualifiers ASM Clermont Auvergne 28-20 in the TOP 14.

A late try from Giovanni Habel Kuffner, converted by Thibault Debaes, earned Pau victory and dented Clermont’s play-off push.
