Only a 16-16 draw at second-placed Edinburgh Rugby denied Bordeaux-Bègles a 100 per cent record as they topped Pool 3 by five points. They racked up 221 points in their six games, the highest tally in all five pools, with Matthieu Jalibert leading the way on 62.

Lockdown news

Although Bordeaux-Bègles have lost a world-class player to Bristol Bears in Fiji centre Remi Radradra, they have strengthened their squad in other areas during lockdown by signing Tongan prop Ben Tameifuna from Racing 92, Argentina lock Guido Petti from Jaguares and New Zealand Sevens wing Ben Lam.

Quarter-final record

Bordeaux-Bègles’ home quarter-final against Edinburgh will be only their second in the Challenge Cup and their first since their debut in the competition in 1996/7, when they lost 20-15 at Agen.

European history

Bordeaux-Bègles have played 15 seasons in European competition and all but two have been spent in the Challenge Cup. In those two – 2015/16 and 2016/17 - they finished second in their pool but failed to reach the knockout stage, so they are in relatively unchartered territory this term.
