Ospreys travelled to the TOP 14 champions in Round 2 having lost at home to Leicester Tigers on the opening weekend, but defied expectations by claiming a stunning win at the GGL Stadium.

The Welsh region crossed twice in just over half an hour - through a Sam Parry drive and a classy Kieran Williams finish – with a shell-shocked Montpellier, who lost Florian Verhaeghe to a yellow card, only mustering a Louis Carbonel penalty.

Ospreys’ Luke Morgan was then sin-binned on 33 minutes, but the visitors produced a colossal defensive effort with a man down to keep Montpellier out.

The hosts eventually dotted down midway through the second half when Brandon Paenga-Amosa crashed through, but Ospreys came up with another moment of magic as Morgan Morris powered over out wide to cap a terrific move.

Alex Cuthbert had a try chalked off by the TMO as the BKT United Rugby Championship (URC) side looked to add further gloss to the scoreline.

They would ultimately close the game out with another huge defensive set, ending an 11-game winless streak in EPCR’s top competition.

Ospreys completed an improbable double over Montpellier in Round 3 as they came out on top in a thrilling contest at Swansea.com Stadium.

The hosts were ahead again at half-time after Alex Cuthbert’s score and eight points from the boot of Cai Evans, though Montpellier were well within striking distance as Paul Willemse’s try brace left them three points adrift.

Two more penalties from Evans extended Ospreys’ lead after the break, but Montpellier seized the advantage when Bastien Chalureau squirmed over and Leo Coly converted on 47 minutes.

But the Welsh region continued to go toe-to-toe with the French heavyweights, with Cuthbert dotting down for his second and Justin Tipuric crossing after industrious work, either side of a Thomas Darmon effort for Montpellier.

The gap was down to a solitary point when Cobus Reinach went over on 71 minutes, but there was another heroic moment from Morgan Morris as he planted down amid a driving maul to seal Ospreys’ win.
