Dean Hammond broke French hearts in added time after fly-half Ryan Mills floated a tantalising pass into his path, gathering the ball in stride and rumbling in.

The dramatic finish only told half the story. Stade Français had led 28-14 at the interval thanks to tries from Charlie Francoz, Ramiro Herrera, Arthur Coville and Jonathan Danty in a dominant first half display – Jules Plisson adding the conversions.

But tries from Tom Howe and centre Ollie Lawrence in the final ten minutes reduced a 14-point deficit to nothing – before Hammond’s dramatic drive to the corner completed a dramatic conclusion to the contest.

Howe opened the scoring with his first of two tries on the afternoon in the 3rd minute, giving Worcester an early lead, but the Stade Français pack soon began to dominate the game – with Francoz and Herrara giving the French side the advantage.

Scrum-half Coville added a third try soon after as the French outfit led 21-7. Warriors clawed the deficit back to seven moments later when Simon Kerrod went over the whitewash but a Danty try prior to the interval extended the lead once more.

The TOP 14 side looked comfortable in the second period until Sam Lewis pulled a try back for the Gallagher Premiership outfit – the game agonisingly poised at 28-19 heading into the final 20 minutes.

The subsequent barrage was too much for Stade Français to handle as Howe and Lawrence went over with only a Nicholas Sanchez penalty in reply for the visitors – the score 31-31 as the clock hit the red.

Cue Hammond touching down in the corner to rapturous applause from the Sixways Stadium crowd – witnessing one of the Challenge Cup’s greatest comebacks.
