As Racing 92 aim to go one better following their European Rugby Champions Cup final defeat to Leinster Rugby in Bilbao, take a look at some of the new additions joining the Parisian club ahead of the 2018-19 Heineken Champions Cup season. They will face two-time European Cup winners Leicester Tigers, last year's semi-finalists Scarlets and 1999 winners Ulster Rugby in a competitive-looking Pool 4. Finn Russell 25-year-old fly-half Finn Russell spent six years with Glasgow Warriors before securing a move to Racing 92 this summer. The Scotland international made his European Cup debut in 2014, and was quickly a mainstay in the Glasgow side. His most productive season to date came in 2016-17, when he scored 63 points in seven matches as Glasgow reached the Champions Cup quarter-finals for the first time in their history – before being defeated 38-13 by eventual winners Saracens. More recently, Russell featured in the Barbarians’ 63-45 victory over England at Twickenham, with the fly-half scoring 19 points including a first-half try. Fabien Sanconnie 23-year-old flanker Fabien Sanconnie joins Racing 92 from French counterparts Brive after spending the first four years of his professional rugby career at the 1997 European Cup winners. Sanconnie’s excellent performances in the Challenge Cup led to him winning a France call-up in 2017 for the Natwest Six Nations Championship, when he made his international debut. Widely regarded across France as a tough tackling back-row with the ability to win turnovers, Sancommie could be a shrewd acquisition for Racing 92. https://twitter.com/ChampionsCup/status/1011878045840494592 Ben Volavola Fiji international Ben Volavola also joins Racing 92 after a season with fellow TOP 14 side Bordeaux-Bègles. Previous to that, the utility-back spent four seasons in Super Rugby with Waratahs, Crusaders and most recently the Melbourne-based Rebels. He only scored 13 points in the Challenge Cup last season, but should be able to eclipse that in his first season with the two-time Champions Cup finalists. Simon Zebo A name familiar to plenty of European rugby fans, Racing 92 confirmed the signing of Ireland and Munster Rugby wing Simon Zebo back in January 2018. The 28-year-old – who has scored 23 tries in 46 European Cup matches for the Irish province – joins Racing 92 after eight seasons with Munster. He broke onto the European scene with a hat-trick in Munster’s 33-19 win over Northampton Saints in their European Cup quarter-final in 2012. Known for his outstanding pace, agility and finishing ability, Racing 92 fans can expect plenty of tries from the four-time European Cup semi-finalist. https://twitter.com/ChampionsCup/status/1011670649423704066 Dominic Bird 27-year-old lock Dominic Bird will make his first appearances in European rugby this season after leaving Super Rugby side Chiefs to join the 2018 Champions Cup finalists. The twice-capped former All-Black stands at 6ft 9in and is known in the Southern Hemisphere for his hard-hitting, outstanding defensive play as well as a formidable option at the scrum. He has been blighted with injuries in recent years, with a foot problem keeping him on the sidelines in 2016 while a shoulder issue meant he missed a large portion of his last campaign with the Hamilton-based Chiefs. Racing 92 will be hoping that if they can keep the forward fit, he will be a valuable option throughout their Champions Cup campaign. The fixtures for the new season will be announced around two weeks after the announcement of the last fixture list from the European professional domestic leagues.
