2000 Heineken Cup final: Northampton Saints 9 Munster Rugby 8

Twickenham Stadium witnessed a nervy battle in 2000 as Northampton scraped to what remains their only title in EPCR’s elite competition to date.

Three Paul Grayson penalties proved decisive for Saints as they recovered from 8-3 down at the break.

The English side dominated the first period but could only register points through the first of Grayson’s kicks. David Wallace notched a breakaway score for Munster to add to Jason Holland’s drop-goal.

However, Northampton wrestled control in the second half as Grayson struck twice more and Munster counterpart Ronan O’Gara endured a torrid game.

The now-Stade Rochelais head coach, who would go on to become the all-time leading points scorer in EPCR’s top competition, missed four kicks from four, including one in the dying seconds.
