The visiting TOP 14 side have some colossal figures among their forwards, with lock Emmanuel Meafou earning an EPCR Player of the Year nomination after a terrific campaign.

Ryan says there is no focus on nullifying Meafou in particular, and that Leinster will instead look to neutralise the Toulouse pack as a collective.

“Probably not a specific plan [for Meafou], it’s more about taking on the Toulouse pack as a whole,” said Ryan, who will captain the team in fly-half Johnny Sexton’s absence. “Even [Richie] Arnold in the second row next to him, he’s a big, physical player as well.

“They have a number of guys who are very strong in the contact area, whether it’s in the maul or over the ball. [Jack] Willis is another guy.

“We probably wouldn’t pay too much attention to one player, but we definitely respect him and are aware of his strengths.”

One area Leinster will look to get the upper hand is at the lineout, where the Irish province have the most efficient of any team in this season’s Heineken Champions Cup.

“The backs always do a very good job with their strike plays and our conversion rate when we get close to the line is always pretty good,” Ryan noted.

“There’s always a big onus on the forwards to make sure we’re as accurate as possible when it comes to set pieces and lineouts so we can give the lads a platform to launch.

“It’s been good. Obviously, preparation has been a big part of that. There’s a huge amount of preparation that goes on behind the scenes.

“It’s important that we build an understanding of the opposition and the way they defend and their set piece. We build a plan off the back of that.”

In Toulouse, Leinster take on a side whose record of five EPCR stars they looking to equal this season, and Ryan acknowledged the huge significance of the game at the Aviva Stadium.

“They are the most successful team in Europe,” he said. “There’s huge motivation there and you have to respect what they’ve done over the last 25 years.

“There’s definitely a legacy there, attached to the club. Even now, they’re one of the form teams in Europe, unbeaten in the [Heineken] Champions Cup, top of the TOP 14.

“Like any Leinster-Toulouse game at the Aviva, it’s a really special day. It’s two teams that have done some really great stuff in the past and that respect each other a lot. We can’t wait for it.”

“Being able to play at the Aviva, in Dublin, is very special for us. The support we get is incredible, it’s a huge motivation for us so we’re going to need it tomorrow.”
