Jonny hopes injury isn't serious

Toulon star Jonny Wilkinson hopes his latest injury setback isn't overly serious.

Toulon star Jonny Wilkinson hopes his latest injury setback isn't overly serious.

The former Newcastle fly-half limped off injured after just 50 minutes of Toulon’s European defeat to Cardiff Blues in Marseilles on Sunday.

Wilkinson crumpled in a heap minutes after being hit by a heavy tackle in the Stade Veledrome.

But, having suffered an almost endless list of serious injuries since his World Cup winning heroics in 2003, Wilkinson is confident that this particular problem won’t keep him out of action for too long.

"I'm not sure if it's a cracked rib. It feels like a bit of a back strain and I will find out this week," said Wilkinson, who went down in a heap after kicking an unsuccessful penalty attempt just two minutes after being on the wrong end of a heavy tackle.

"At the moment it does feel a bit uncomfortable but I am not in a position where I am feeling dread in any way.

"From what the physio said, I hope it is run of the mill, that I can have some treatment and be raring to go."

Double Lions tourist Wilkinson is hopeful that he will still be able to make England’s summer tour of Australasia as he battles to win his Test place back from Leicester’s Toby Flood.
