La Rochelle – who will be gunning for their first ever Heineken Champions Cup title – thrashed Agen 59-0 in the TOP 14.

Four-time European champions Toulouse meanwhile slipped to a 32-28 defeat at home to Bayonne, leaving the title race in France’s top tier wide open.

La Rochelle now trail league leaders Toulouse by a single point with two games to play, meaning the two teams will be battling each other for both European and domestic glory in the coming weeks.

Raymond Rhule scored a hat-trick in La Rochelle's demolition of Agen, while fly-half Ihaia West scored a try and kicked six conversions.

EPCR European Player of the Year nominee Grégory Alldritt also crossed the whitewash, with further scores coming from Thomas Lavault, Geoffrey Doumayrou and Pierre Bourgarit, in addition to a penalty try.

At the Stade Ernest Wallon, fly-half Maxime Lafage inspired Bayonne to their win over Toulouse as he kicked 19 points for the visitors.

Tries from Iosefa Tekori and Thomas Ramos had put Toulouse in control early on, but Bayonne responded through scores from Aymeric Luc and Remy Baget.

Selevasio Tolofu then crossed to put Toulouse back in front, but the boot of Lafage proved decisive as Bayonne built a healthy lead.

Dimitri Delibes’ try for Toulouse in the closing minutes reduced the deficit but came too late for the table-toppers to mount a comeback.

The Heineken Champions Cup final between La Rochelle and Toulouse will be live on BT Sport, Channel 4 and Virgin Media from Twickenham on Saturday 22 May. The action gets underway at 16:45 UK and Irish time as the 2020/21 European crown is decided.
