Ospreys 15 Saracens 22

An immaculate goal-kicking display from Manu Vunipola alongside a superb try from Alex Lewington enabled Saracens to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals from Pool 4 of the Heineken Champions Cup.

Dan Evans scored two tries for Ospreys when Sarries were reduced to 13 men after flanker Calum Clark was yellow-carded, but they could make no headway against the defending champions’ 14 men.

Fly-half Vunipola had already kicked his first penalty when Carre was red-carded for a dangerous tackle and Luke Price levelled with a penalty on 14 minutes.

But Vunipola continued to kick his penalties, pulling Saracens 12-3 ahead – until Clark infringed at a ruck in the 33rd minute.

From a driving line-out, Ospreys spun the ball along the line and full-back Evans spotted a gap to slide under the posts to give Price a simple conversion.

Evans struck again two minutes into the second half while Sarries were still down to 13 men, but Price missed the conversion.

Vunipola showed how it was done when wing Lewington leapt like a salmon to catch Richard Wigglesworth’s pinpoint kick and raced away to score near the posts in the 50th minute for the decisive try.

Glasgow Warriors 31 Exeter Chiefs 31

Exeter Chiefs secured a spot in the Heineken Champions Cup quarter-finals after a thrilling 31-31 draw with Glasgow Warriors at Scotstoun.

Glasgow made a perfect start and scored a try in the opening minute. It was great play by Tommy Seymour who chipped over the final Exeter defender and collected his kick to score in the corner.

Exeter hit back with a Joe Simmonds penalty kick before Glasgow got a second try, with play reaching Huw Jones and he cut the angle wonderfully and dived over the line to push the Scottish side out to a 14-3 lead.

Glasgow would try to go wide again as they went on the search for a third try but this time they were punished, with Nic White latching onto a poor pass and sprinted 50 metres for the try.

Matt Kvesic powered over shortly after and they grabbed another with Glasgow down to 14 men as Jacques Vermeulen dotted down.

In a thrilling opening 40, it was rounded off with a delightful dummy and step from Adam Hastings and he released George Horne for the try with the clock in the red, making it 24-24 at the interval.

The second half was quieter on try-scoring action but Exeter did go seven ahead after a tap from Jack Nowell and two phases later Matt Kvesic dummied and powered over the line for his second of the game.

However, Glasgow came roaring back with a driving maul that got over the Exeter try line, with Niko Matawalu under a pile of players from both teams.

The match would not be without late drama as Stuart Hogg attempted a wind-assisted penalty kick to win the game from fully 60 metres out but the kick hit the crossbar and came back out to the relief of the Scotstoun faithful, with the match ending all-square.

ASM Clermont Auvergne 29 Ulster Rugby 13

ASM Clermont Auvergne put in a terrific second half display to defeat Ulster Rugby 29-13 and secure a Heineken Champions Cup quarter-final spot.

It was a superb start for Ulster through Stuart McCloskey who picked a gap in the Clermont line and they got a metre or two away from the line before the hosts were penalised for going off feet at the breakdown.

That left John Cooney to kick the visitors in the lead before Camille Lopez responded with a drop goal on seven minutes.

A minute later, Ulster were back ahead and it was that man Cooney again. It came from some smart work from the forwards and that released the scrum-half who sprinted away to score at the posts.

Ulster continued to dominate but failed to turn that territory and possession into points thanks to some stout Clermont defence.

It was an eventful final 20 minutes of the first half from Morgan Parra who slotted over two penalties either side of a yellow card for the captain after a deliberate knock on, leaving Ulster a point ahead at the interval.

Clermont were the better side in the second period and took advantage with Alivereti Raka going over in the 49th minute, before the two sides traded penalties through Parra and Cooney.

However, it was George Moala who had the final say when he exploited some holes in the Ulster line and powered clear for the final score of the match.
