published on behalf of an independent Disciplinary Committee Appeal Committee Decision – Alex Lozowski An independent Appeal Committee has allowed an appeal by the Saracens player, Alex Lozowski, against the two-week suspension imposed on him by an independent Disciplinary Committee after he was cited for foul play during his club's Heineken Champions Cup, Round 1 match against Glasgow Warriors. At the initial Disciplinary Hearing, the citing complaint was upheld as it was determined that Lozowski had entered a ruck in a dangerous manner, striking the Glasgow Warriors hooker, Fraser Brown, in contravention of Law 9.20. His period of suspension was subsequently administratively reviewed and it was decided that as he would not ordinarily have been expected to play for Saracens in a Premiership Cup match against Leicester Tigers due to his selection for an England Squad training camp, his suspension was extended to take in Saracens’ Heineken Champions Cup, Round 2 match against Lyon, Saracens’ Premiership Cup match against Sale Sharks on Friday, 2 November and/or England’s international match against South Africa on Saturday, 3 November. In London yesterday (Friday, 26 October), the independent Appeal Committee consisting of Rod McKenzie (Scotland), Chair, Simon Thomas (Wales) and Philippe Cavalieros (France), reviewed the decision to suspend the player for two weeks. The Committee heard submissions from Lozowski, from Saracens’ legal representative, Sam Jones, from the Saracens’ Director of Rugby, Mark McCall, from EPCR’s legal representative, Max Duthie, and from the EPCR Disciplinary Officer, Liam McTiernan. The Committee decided that the decision at the initial Disciplinary Hearing was in error, and should be set aside. Appeal Committee Decision – Alex Lozowski An independent Appeal Committee has allowed an appeal by EPCR against the decision of an independent Disciplinary Committee to dismiss a citing complaint against the Saracens player, Alex Lozowski, arising from this club’s Heineken Champions Cup, Round 1 match against Glasgow Warriors. Lozowski was cited for an alleged dangerous tackle on the Glasgow Warriors full back, Ruaridh Jackson, in contravention of Law 9.13. At the subsequent Disciplinary Hearing, the Committee decided that the tackle did not warrant a red card and dismissed the complaint. In London yesterday (Friday, 26 October), the independent Appeal Committee consisting of Rod McKenzie (Scotland), Chair, Simon Thomas (Wales) and Philippe Cavalieros (France), reviewed the decision to dismiss the citing complaint and heard submissions from EPCR’s legal representative, Max Duthie, as well as evidence from the EPCR Disciplinary Officer, Liam McTiernan. The Committee decided that the decision at the initial Disciplinary Hearing was in error, and should be set aside. The case will be reheard by a newly-constituted independent Disciplinary Committee as soon as convenient for all parties.
