Apart from two seasons with Racing Metro 92, Sexton has been a Leinster ever-present since 2008, registering 697 of his 709 European points in the European Cup to stand fourth in the all-time list and steer the Irish province to their four titles.

The four-time European Cup winner has an impressive list of other individual and team honours too, including the 2018 World Rugby Player of the Year award, the Ireland captaincy from January 2020 and British and Irish Lions tours in 2013 and 2017.

Sexton’s greatest European match for Leinster came in the 2011 Heineken Cup final, when his 28 points helped Leinster to a famous 33-22 comeback victory over Northampton Saints and a second European crown.

He also won the European Rugby Challenge Cup in 2013 and has scored a total of 1,505 points for Leinster – an all-time record for the province.

The Ireland captain has yet to feature in this season’s Heineken Champions Cup for Leinster, who have a home match in the last 16, after winning their pool stage matches against Northampton Saints and Montpellier.

The Round of 16 and quarter-final matches will now be decided by draws which will take place on next Tuesday, March 9.
