The East Midlands outfit haven’t featured in a showpiece European match since being beaten by Leinster Rugby in the 2009 European Cup final, but return to centre stage tonight against a Montpellier side full of international talent.

Leicester can take heart from statement victories over Newcastle Falcons and the-then competition favourites Ulster Rugby, with England international George Ford insisting that his side haven’t deviated from a normal game week in what is an exciting 24 hours ahead for the Welford Road side.

“We’re obviously massively excited about the game,” said the 28-year-old.

“I think it’s been relatively normal in terms of the training week, the scheduling and the ins and outs of what we’re doing in the week, but we can’t get away from [the fact] that it is a final as well.

“It is a final, so there is a difference there between that and a normal game, but in terms of what we do, the way we prepare, we haven’t gone too far away from what we would normally do.

“We feel that’s put us in a good position to go and play well at the weekend.”

Leicester head coach Steve Borthwick added that it will be the few key moments at Twickenham tonight that will settle the clash against the 2016 Challenge Cup winners.

“When you come to the big games, the more important the basics are, the fundamentals are, the more significant they are,” Borthwick said.

“Games at this level are usually decided by a few key moments. You’ve just got to keep making sure you keep getting the basics right, over and over again.

“That’s something, since I started at Leicester, that we’ve tried to instill.

“We’ve got some way to go on our journey, we’re still early, but we’re working hard to make sure that we are consistent at the basics.

“I feel very privileged to do what we do, especially through these last 12 months where we’ve been able to continue playing rugby, doing what we love doing, where a lot of people have not been able to, so I feel greatly privileged to do it, I enjoy what we do.”
