The 20-year-old, who has four tries in just seven appearances in the Heineken Champions Cup, continued his rich vein of form at BT Murrayfield as Wales made it two wins from two in the Guinness 6 Nations with a 25-24 victory.

Rees-Zammit went over for his first score late in the first half, producing some slick footwork to evade a covering Scotland defender.

The try reduced a 14-point lead Scotland had opened up thanks to tries from Edinburgh Rugby’s Darcy Graham and Exeter Chiefs’ Stuart Hogg, after Racing 92’s Finn Russell and Scarlets’ Leigh Halfpenny had exchanged early penalties.

Rees-Zammit then turned provider shortly after the break, coming off his wing to find space in the midfield and set up Scarlets’ Liam Williams for a try as Wales clawed their way back into the game.

Moments later, Scotland were reduced to 14 men as Glasgow Warriors prop Zander Fagerson was sent off, before Ospreys’ veteran lock Alun Wyn Jones powered over to cap a miserable seven-minute spell for the hosts.

Scotland rallied though and reclaimed the lead through a second Hogg try, before Rees-Zammit produced another moment of magic to win it for Wales.

The youngster received the ball on the halfway line and showed his scintillating pace once again to burst past a contingent of Scottish defenders, before chipping a delightful kick over full-back Hogg and gathering over the try line to hand Wales a dramatic victory.
