Pool placing

Edinburgh claimed the sixth seeding with the best match-points total (21) for a second-placed team after completing doubles over Wasps and Agen in Pool 3. However, they took only one point off first-placed Bordeaux-Bègles, drawing 16-16 at home with the Top 14 club and losing 32-17 in France.

Lockdown news

Edinburgh have signed lock Andrew Davidson from Glasgow Warriors and Australian centre Matt Gordon from London Scottish, while Scotland centre Matt Scott has left BT Murrayfield for Leicester Tigers. Flanker John Barclay has also announced his retirement.

Quarter-final record

This is the fourth time in five seasons that Edinburgh have made the last eight of the Challenge Cup. However, only once on the previous three occasions have they progressed beyond the quarter-finals – in 2014/5, when they made the final, only to be squeezed out 19-13 by Gloucester Rugby at Twickenham Stoop.

European history

That Challenge Cup final is the furthest Edinburgh have got in European competition, but their most notable achievement was qualifying for the 2011/2 European Cup semi-final, only to fall narrowly, 22-19, to Ulster Rugby.
