Pool 1: Elliot Dee (Dragons) The last two seasons have seen Dee become a lethal finisher in the Challenge Cup, as he has notched seven tries in seven games, as well as claiming two man-of-the-match awards. This skill, allied to his hooking capabilities, has attracted the attention of Wales head coach Warren Gatland, who has capped the 25-year-old 21 times. Pool 2: Ken Owens (Scarlets) In Dee’s way to becoming Wales’ regular No.2 is Owens, who has accumulated vast experience with his country and Scarlets, playing 66 Tests and making 55 European appearances. The 32-year-old has been Scarlets’ captain since 2014 and was a member of the British and Irish Lions Test squad for the drawn series in New Zealand in 2017. Pool 3: Stuart McInally (Edinburgh Rugby) McInally captained Edinburgh to the quarter-finals of the Heineken Champions Cup last season and so impressed Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend with his leadership qualities that he was appointed skipper of the national side as well. The consistent former back-row forward has not looked back since being switched to the front row in 2015, scoring seven tries in 17 European appearances. [jwplayer up8eyOUH] Pool 4: Harry Thacker (Bristol Bears) Thacker featured in only two Challenge Cup games last season, but crucially they were two of the hardest – against La Rochelle, including the quarter-final – and he scored in one. The livewire England Under-20 international has proved a great signing for the Bears from Leicester Tigers and will be where the action is if he receives game time from Pat Lam. Pool 5: Tatafu Polota-Nau (Leicester Tigers) The 34-year-old Polota-Nau is hugely experienced, having amassed 89 caps for Australia in a 13-year Test career, as well as nearly 150 Super Rugby appearances for the Waratahs. The powerful No.2 is now trying to bring that knowhow to bear on Leicester’s play and he will be an important figure in their first season in the Challenge Cup.
